History

The fundamental definition was formulated by the Vegan Society and communicated to the IVU in 1951 (source : Veganism defined) in a letter that was published in a quaterly magazine at spring (source : IVU ).

In 1979, the Vegan Society gave a new definition, while it was adopting a limited company organization. This new definition was amended until 1988.

In 2018, the Vegan Federation (original name is in french : Fédération végane), a non-profit organization, declared since 1st October 2010, working exclusively on the basis of volunteer and data of reproducible évidences, formulated another applied definition of veganism; included in its statutes, it was also first publicly shared the same year, at the occasion of a press communication explaining that veganism must not be confused with antispeciesm.
