History
The word vegan was created and adopted in 1944 among founders of the Vegan Society, using the three first and last two letters of the word "vegetarian". The word was proposed by the founder Donald Watson (1910-2005).

History
The fundamental definition was formulated by the Vegan Society and communicated to the IVU in 1951 (source : Veganism defined) in a letter that was published in a quaterly magazine at spring (source : IVU ).
In 1979, the Vegan Society gave a new definition, while it was adopting a limited company organization. This new definition was amended until 1988.
In 2018, the Vegan Federation (original name is in french : Fédération végane), a non-profit organization, declared since 1st October 2010, working exclusively on the basis of volunteer and data of reproducible évidences, formulated another applied definition of veganism; included in its statutes, it was also first publicly shared the same year, at the occasion of a press communication explaining that veganism must not be confused with antispeciesm.
